The purpose of the research: development and implementation of a new scientific approach to the selection of optimal repair profiles of wheels using resource-saving methods of their restoration to increase the operational life cycle and reduce maintenance and repair costs. As a result of the scientific work, the results were obtained, which are an addition and a scientific contribution to the following theoretical propositions: - the method of determining the parameters of the recovery of repair profiles of wheels based on optimization according to the target function was developed: the specific operating costs per unit of the life cycle of a pair of wheels tend to the minimum; - developed a method of monitoring the wear of the rolling surfaces of the wheels of locomotives and wagons based on an automated monitoring system.
