Continuing the fruitful ideas of Western and Ukrainian researchers who have been working on the development of imagological issues (in particular, D. Nalyvaiko and the Ukrainian literary school, I. Yudkin, who drew attention to the importance of the imagological direction in cultural studies), the author for the first time actualizes the imagological approach in the field of musical cultural studies and art history. On the example of specific artistic cases, it is proved that the imagological approach makes it possible to study artistic images objectified in works of art, to reveal the specifics of the figurative perception of the "Other" by representatives of different cultures, to reveal the perceptions of participants in cultural dialogue about each other, etc. It is proved that contemporary art is not limited to cultural and artistic forms, but also extends to value orientations, the type and way of thinking of both an individual and society as a whole, forms a particular picture of the world and certain methods of its development, determines the attitude of the individual to the Other, nature, society, state, and the universe. The theoretical significance of the work is that its implementation allows scholars to identify previously unnoticed meaningful meanings in cultural phenomena, to trace the life of cultural phenomena in the context of a new socio-historical reality.
