The Ascanian Karakul breed sheep closed populations is the object of research. Research methods are zootechnical, breeding, population-genetic, biochemical and biometric. The level of ewes’ reproductive capacity and productivity was studied and the main selection traits development level in Ascanian Karakul sheep of different origins was determined; its modern genealogical structure was investigated so as selection and genetic parameters were determined. Monitoring studies of the productivity indicators dynamics and the Ascanian Karakul breed ewes’ reproductive capacity showed that the live weight varied within 49-53 kg. The increase and decrease of their average live weight in individual years is associated with rotation and the introduction of young animals into the herd. During the study of reproductive qualities, fluctuations of this indicator were noted (from 124.0% to 141.0%).Newborn lambs generally had a medium curl size, thick, silky and shiny hair. The results of the skins grade indicate that the yield of strips of the first grade in both single and twins’ skins is high - 85.5...86.7%. The main selection traits were characterized by sufficient values of variability, which makes it possible to effectively conduct further selection and breeding work in the Ascanian Karakul breed sheep population. It was found that the coefficient of variability of the hair length on the withers averaged 20.9% and ranged from 16.9 to 26.1% in the section of the lines; the length of the hair on the sacrum, respectively, 15.1% (10.7-16.9%), the size of the curl - 25.5% (7.4-30.1%), the length of the curl - 25.3 (13.6-30 .7%), the live weight of lambs at birth is 23.6% (16.6-23.7%).
