Both general scientific and philosophical research methods were used. They included, in particular, methods of situation analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, abstraction, modeling, hermeneutic and pragmatic methods, systematic approach, statistical and structural methods, comparative legal approach, geopolitical and geo-economic methods. The political economy of climate neutrality and international legal mechanisms for ensuring climate justice were studied. The important aspects, such as differentiated responsibility, human rights and compensation for damage which determine national and international obligations in the field of reducing emission of greenhouse gases, were indicated. Key elements of achieving climate neutrality, including global peak emissions, national contributions and low-carbon development strategies, were highlighted. Such tools as renewable energy sources, energy efficient technologies and market mechanisms to reduce the carbon footprint were considered. The climate neutrality was proved to be necessarily integrated with climate justice, but there are some contradictions in practice. Considering Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the need to compensate for “climatic” damage through the creation of special mechanisms and funds was emphasized.
