Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description2  The object of the research is the electromagnetic waves used in controlled nuclear fusion devices for plasma heating. The purpose of the work is the development of analytical, numerical and experimental methods for studying the interaction of electromagnetic fields with plasma for their use in nuclear fusion devices and in the future in a demonstration thermonuclear reactor. Spatial characteristics and slow wave absorption during high-frequency plasma heating in the ion cyclotron frequency range were studied. It was found that slow-wave rays propagate mainly along the magnetic field lines, reaching a considerable distance from the antenna. However, the penetration of the wave into the plasma is limited, and the main absorption occurs at the periphery, in the zone of cyclotron resonance of 3He ions. It is important to note that the absorption of the slow wave by electrons does not lead to the generation of significant currents that could affect the plasma equilibrium. This testifies to the effectiveness of the chosen heating method to achieve the target parameters of the plasma. The obtained results are of direct importance for future experiments on ion cyclotron resonance heating in the W 7-X installation.
