Research Object: The study focuses on immovable historical and cultural heritage objects and museum-quality items located within the Exclusion Zone. Objective of the Research: The aim of the research is to create an updated register of immovable historical and cultural heritage objects within the Exclusion Zone and to develop recommendations for their further preservation and protection. Additionally, the study seeks to ensure the preservation of movable ethnographic artefacts and archival documents. Methods: Field surveys, measurements, and assessment of the technical condition of immovable historical and cultural heritage objects; scientific photographic documentation; analysis of collected field data; mapping of immovable historical and cultural monuments; scientific inventory of museum items. During 2020-2021, two comprehensive historical and ethnographic expeditions were conducted in 46 villages within the exclusion zone and in the city of Chornobyl. During these expeditions, 73 objects of traditional wooden architecture, 44 cemeteries, and 55 historical and memorial monuments were surveyed and photographed to assess their current state of preservation. A total of 243 museum-quality items and 122 paper-based archival documents were collected. As a result of analysing the technical condition of the surveyed folk architecture objects, evaluating their cultural and historical value, and conducting dosimetric control, 27 traditional wooden buildings were selected for potential relocation to an open-air museum in the city of Chornobyl.
