Describe the suitability criteria (general requirements) and unfavorable criteria when choosing areas for the storage of radioactive waste. popup.description2 The results of the regional analysis of the territory of Ukraine were obtained on the basis of consideration of geological conditions of the regions of Ukraine, concepts of geological disposal, economic and socio-demographic factors. They showed that the most promising region of Ukraine should be considered the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (CEZ) with adjacent territories (area - 9000 km2), and the most acceptable host geological formation - crystalline rocks of the CEZ foundation. In general, this is determined by the following factors: in the CEZ there are favorable geological conditions for the safe disposal of radioactive waste (RW); there is no permanent resident population (i.e. the risks of social protests and unintentional human intervention are minimal); the main volume of RW, which can be disposed of only in a geological repository is located here. According to the results of the screening, three promising areas (Novosilkivska, Zhovtneva, Veresnyanska) were identified within the CEZ and adjacent territories for further priority research in order to identify three candidate sites for the location of a geological repository for radioactive waste.   Product Description popup.authors Borysova Tetiana A.
