The aim is to analyze the existing physical and dynamic characteristics of M-type asteroids, conduct additional observations of selected objects, and after a comprehensive analysis of data and model calculations, determine more precise criteria for distinguishing metallic and non-metallic asteroids, identify the most likely candidates for the parent bodies of iron meteorites, assess their number and localization in the asteroid belt. Research methods include spectrophotometric and polarimetric telescopic observations, numerical modeling, analytical calculations, comparative analysis of the obtained data. Results: for nine M-type asteroids, high-quality magnitude phase dependences were measured for the first time and differences in the magnitudes of their opposition effect were detected. The density of the near-Earth potentially hazardous asteroid (154201) 2000 WO107 was determined. The high density value strongly suggests a metallic composition for the asteroid. We identified 40 previously unknown asteroid pairs in the inner region of the main belt. The absence of pairs among known M-type asteroids has been confirmed. A new criterion for identifying M-type asteroids among other types in large observational datasets has been proposed. The first and most comprehensive catalog of candidates for metallic asteroids in the main asteroid belt has been compiled. It was demonstrated that the current dataset of M-type asteroids is complete for objects with diameters exceeding 5 km. M-type asteroids are distributed across all regions of the main belt without any distinct localization. Product Description popup.authors Holubov Oleksii A. Kyrylenko Ihor I. Kruhlyi Yurii M.
