In particular, a molecular genetic analysis of 19 natural populations of C. relaxa from 8 islands of the Maritime Antarctic was carried out by assessing the length polymorphism of introns of β-tubulin genes using known and self-developed primer pairs. As a result of the analysis, a low level of molecular genetic polymorphism of C. relaxa was established. At the same time, samples from the most remote northern and southern islands (Booth and Charvez) are characterized by the presence of unique amplicons in their DNA profile, and for some samples (Black and Petermann) from the central part of the studied region, a combination of typical and unique fragments is observed. All this probably indicates the possible genetic isolation of the marginal populations of C. relaxa and the more severe conditions of existence that cause adaptive divergence, which increases genetic diversity. The lack of polymorphism in populations from the central part and the presence of populations that combine samples with typical and distinctive DNA profiles may indicate an intermediate position between the extreme populations or genetic flow between the individual groups of samples studied. The results of the sequencing of ITS1 and rps4 fragments showed that ITS1 is characterized by greater polymorphism than rps4, which turned out to be insufficiently variable to detect differences between C. relaxa populations. In general, a low number of mutations was found, which indicates the stability of populations that are subject to strong selection, which can reduce diversity by fixing certain allelic states.
