Registration Date 30-12-2024 Organization Institute of Fisheries of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The aim of the work is comprehensive population-genetic studies of genetic and functional features of the gene pool of carp fish species to increase the efficiency of breeding in aquaculture of Ukraine using modern molecular genetic, cytogenetic, and biochemical methods. A system of measures and recommendations for the effective use of available breeding resources of carp farms will be developed. popup.description2  Analysis of selected microsatellite markers revealed that 100% of the markers examined were polymorphic in both leather and scaly carp groups. The lowest polymorphic information content (PIC) value was observed at locus MFW 02 in leather carp (PIC = 0.842), whereas the highest was observed at the same locus but in the scaly carp group (PIC = 0.939). The mean PIC values were 0.903 ± 0.009 for scaly carp group and 0.879 ± 0.009 for leather carp group. The combined mean PIC was 0.891 ± 0.012, indicating high level of polymorphism across all loci. Both groups exhibited high Shannon diversity index values at locus MFW 23. The mean index (I) for leather carp was 2.348 ± 0.056, while that for scaly carp was 2.481 ± 0.060. Genetic variability in the Galician carp group was further assessed through the examination of protein and enzyme systems, highlighting specific genetic structure characteristics. The analysis of observed and expected heterozygosity revealed that the highest variability was observed at the Tf locus (0.694), while the lowest variability was observed at the Alb locus (0.457). The mean observed and expected heterozygosity values across all loci were 0.528 and 0.729, respectively. The micronucleus test revealed that the studied group of carp exhibited average values of red blood cells with micronuclei (3.6 ± 0.3‰), consistent with reference ranges. The frequency of lymphocytes with micronuclei (LMN) (2.7 ± 0.2‰) and binuclear lymphocytes (BL) (2.2 ± 0.2‰) was low, suggesting a stable genetic apparatus in the studied fish and an absence of significant external stressors on immune system function, indicating relatively favorable environmental conditions.
