Purpose: scientific substantiation of requirements for methodological support of the implementation program of the State Radon Action Plan in accordance with international standards. Methods: bibliosemantic, analytical. Results: based on the analysis of world experience and international regulatory documents in the field of radiation protection, it has been established that the development and introduction of normative and regulatory documents for the implementation of the State Action Plan to reduce indoor radon levels of dwelling and public buildings and workplaces (CMU Order No. 1417-p of 27.11.2019) will reduce public exposure to this source by providing an effective system of protective measures. The only requirements and procedures have been scientifically substantiated and defined for: monitoring radon in Ukraine, assessing radiation risks and informing the public and stakeholders about their value, determining and assessing radon activity concentrations in workplaces, assessing radon levels after the implementation of remediation in homes and workplaces that are not related to practical activities. Based on the results of the research, methodological and regulatory documents were developed: “The procedure for radon monitoring in Ukraine and notification of radiation risks (Guidelines)” and ‘Methodology for radon monitoring (Guidelines)’ (approved by the Ministry of Health); as well as draft guidelines: “Determination and assessment of radon activity concentrations at workplaces” and ‘Assessment of the effectiveness of remediation in buildings’, the implementation of which will reduce the impact of radon on human health in the context of the effectiveness of the Radon Action Plan. The State hygienic standards and sanitary regulations “Basic safety standards for handling materials containing radionuclides of natural origin” were finalized.
