The purpose of the work is to develop theoretical and methodological approaches and practical recommendations for ensuring competitive advantages of agro-industrial complex enterprises and energy independence of rural areas. The research methods are: analysis, comparative analysis, generalization and other scientific methods of cognition. The research results – the international experience of ensuring energy independence of rural areas was studied and the main directions of this process in modern realities were identified; a system of indicators of the effectiveness of the functioning of agro-industrial complex enterprises and rural areas was formed in order to determine the effectiveness of current development strategies; a conceptual model of increasing the competitiveness of agro-industrial complex enterprises and rural areas was built. The obtained research results have practical value in determining measures to optimize the process of ensuring energy independence of rural areas at the state level; substantiating the new economic category “innovative mechanism for increasing the competitiveness of agro-industrial complex enterprises”, which reflects the integration of innovative approaches into all aspects of the activities of enterprises in the agricultural sector of the economy in order to ensure their sustainable development and adaptation to the challenges of today; a mechanism aimed at forming the functional support of enterprises in terms of their life cycle stages; developed three-dimensional multi-component decision-making system, which, based on the current level of competitiveness, innovation and energy potential, makes it possible to propose a vector for the development of a business entity.
