The aim of the research is to identify different types of virtual collections (taxonomic, reference, author's, memorial) based on scientific attribution and digitisation collections of the State Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. 1887 species / 19250 records (Bryophyta, Marchantiophyta, Tracheophyta, Odonata, Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Erotylidae, Endomychidae, Mycetophagidae, Ciidae, Buprestidae, Neuroptera, Bombus) from the botanical and entomological collections of the State Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine were processed and entered into the database of the Data Centre «Biodiversity of Ukraine» <http://dc.smnh.org/>. As a result of digitisation of the herbarium and entomological collections of the State Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine (13285 museum items), 18 catalogues of separate species, genera, families and orders of plants and insects were prepared. The analysis of literary sources made it possible to find out the timing and exact routes of researchers' expeditions, to clarify the names of places that have now fallen out of use, and to determine the places of collection of certain museum objects. Author's labels of 50 researchers were identified; 79 virtual collections (taxonomic, author's, reference, thematic, and institutional) were created. A number of museum objects from the collections of the State Museum of the NAS of Ukraine were linked to specific literary references, and the years of collection of these specimens were specified. The software of the Data Centre «Biodiversity of Ukraine» and open environmental data can be used for scientific and collection work in other natural history museums, as well as for scientific substantiation of ecosystem restoration, in particular in the post-war period.
