IF Kuras NAS of Ukraine popup.description1 The work is aimed to make comparative analysis of forms and methods of political participation of civil society in world’s different regions. The result will be the more complete picture of counter-opposing between democratic and authoritarian trends in world political process. popup.description2  The study revealed a number of trends in the development of civil society in the world. On the one hand, the material collected and analysed confirmed the position about the negative impact that dependence on the state has on the development of civil society. However, this statement is true only for countries ruled by anti-democratic authoritarian regimes. The study identified the Russian Federation, Belarus, and a number of African and Asian countries as such. On the contrary, close cooperation of civil society organisations with democratic governments in the Baltic, Central and Eastern European, and Western European countries has resulted in intensification of civic initiative, expansion of the network of civil society organisations, and increase of their financial and organisational capacities to implement their tasks. In the course of studying the situation in authoritarian countries, it was found that the regimes ruling there use methods of control over the activities of CSOs on a large scale, restrict their rights in every possible way, applying anti-democratic legal norms against them, especially in the issue of receiving financial support from foreign donors. Regardless of the motives, pressure on CSOs by authoritarian regimes takes the form of public defamation, police repression, blocking of activities, and financial restrictions. At the same time, the study found that despite the demoralisation, some CSOs have maintained their resilience and readiness to defend their rights through political means. The productivity of interaction between CSOs and the government in democratic countries was especially evident in connection with the Russian-Ukrainian war and the need to choose a national position in relation to its participants. The CSOs of democratic countries have had a powerful impact on the formation of pro-Ukrainian sentiments in the society and governmental circles and relevant political practices.
