The aim of the research project is to explore the normative content and theoretical-methodological approaches to the application of principles and norms of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts, analyze the state of legal regulation of the application of international humanitarian law norms by the Defense Forces, specifically the National Guard of Ukraine (hereinafter – NGU) during its tasks in a state of war, and propose solutions to the current problems in this area. The first stage of the research project serves as the foundation for further exploration, as it defines the strategic directions of the research, forms the methodological basis for obtaining expected results, and identifies the key problems that determine the relevance and scientific importance of the study. The goal of the first stage is to select the key directions and existing methodologies for studying the specifics of the content and implementation of international humanitarian law (IHL) norms during armed conflicts, particularly in the context of the service-combat activities of the NGU units. During the first stage of the research project, the following actions were carried out: - selection of relevant sources was made to provide the theoretical foundation for further analysis and study of the issue; - the most effective theoretical-methodological approaches for choosing the optimal research strategy were analyzed and selected; - the main research directions were defined, based on the analysis of existing IHL sources, military legislation, and related to ensuring IHL norms in the service-combat activities of the Defense Forces and NGU, specifically; - the main problems in the stated area were identified.
