The aim of the present study is to ascertain the level of resistance exhibited by winter wheat varieties against dominant phytophages, based on the refined species composition of the harmful entomocomplex of the crop. Furthermore, the study seeks to identify resistant genotypes. The research methods: field, laboratory, mathematical, and statistical. Results. The entomocomplex of winter wheat and the grain quality of domestic and foreign varieties were the focus of the study. A total of 46 to 48 species of harmful insects were identified, primarily from the order Coleoptera (38%). The main groups of phytophages that constitute a phytosanitary load on crops were identified. The results of the study demonstrated that the structure of the entomofauna exhibited similarity following predecessors such as green manure (mustard) and soybeans. However, it was observed that the density of pest infestation of crops following soybeans was elevated. A relationship was identified between the morphological characteristics of plants and the level of pest abundance. Varieties exhibiting a dense ear type, wax coating, and pubescence were characterised by a lower level of aphid, thrips, and leafhopper infestation. It is evident that the early-maturing varieties Meronivska rannostyhla and Galio have been identified as promising sources for use in further breeding programmes, with a view to creating resistant and high-quality winter wheat varieties.
