A prototype of a potato tuber flow retarder has been developed and manufactured that meets all the requirements and needs for use in sorting and packing potatoes. It was found that when using the potato tuber flow retarder during sorting and packaging, tuber damage was reduced by 16.8–21.2%, which is a significant factor in preserving the sowing and consumer qualities of tubers and their marketable appearance. In 2025, a prototype of the potato tuber flow retarder was tested in production conditions and it was found that its use during potato sorting and packaging, both manually (with buckets) and with the help of a conveyor at the sorting point, reduces tuber damage by 14.5–22.6%. The quality of the tubers was assessed according to agrotechnical requirements, taking into account the importance of the physical and mechanical properties of the crop to ensure the mechanism's performance.
