The use of genetically diverse source material enables the creation of cultivars with broad adaptive capacity and a high potential for the realization of productivity. The objective of the study was to develop high-yielding winter bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars based on new source material that combine stable productivity, high grain quality, and comprehensive resistance to major biotic and abiotic environmental factors. The relevance of the research is driven by the need to adapt varietal resources to climate change, the increasing frequency of abiotic stresses, and the growing demands for grain baking quality. Classical breeding methods were applied in the selection program, including intra-specific and inter-specific hybridization of cultivars and collection accessions followed by repeated selection aimed at identifying transgressive forms for key agronomically valuable traits. The report presents the methodology and scope of breeding work focused on the development of high-yielding winter bread wheat cultivars with strong baking quality and enhanced adaptation to stress conditions of the Forest-Steppe and Polissia regions. During the research, 102 collection cultivars were studied and evaluated in source material nurseries, of which 14 were selected for hybridization, resulting in 140 crossing combinations. In hybrid and breeding nurseries, 1,180 crossing combinations from 1992–2024 were investigated; among them, 1,430 heterozygous and 1,220 homozygous families were selected for further breeding. From control nurseries, 387 breeding lines were selected, while 126 and 74 lines were chosen from preliminary and competitive variety trials, respectively. Product Description popup.authors Oksana A.
