The objective of the fifth stage of the research project is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of ecosystem status and identify strategies for the rational use, conservation, and restoration of biodiversity. A wide range of methodological approaches were applied in field and laboratory studies of floristic and faunistic complexes. The tasks included assessing the current state of biodiversity in the Dnieper River basin, identifying trends in the spread of non-native and invasive species, examining patterns of transformation in natural and artificial ecosystems under climate change and anthropogenic impacts, and providing a scientific basis for strategies and practical measures for conservation, restoration, and protected area development. The study revealed depletion of natural biodiversity and an increase in the proportion of non-native and invasive species. New data were collected on the species diversity of aquatic, semi-aquatic, and terrestrial ecosystems. It was found that the Dnieper River valley is a major corridor for the spread of alien species in the Ukrainian steppe, leading to replacement of autochthonous species and disruption of natural biodiversity. These results expand scientific knowledge of current biodiversity in natural and artificial ecosystems and can serve as a foundation for national and regional conservation programs, restoration efforts, and protected area planning.
