A comprehensive method for determining the residual life of structural elements under long-term static loading, taking material degradation into account, has been developed; it combines mutually adapted acoustic emission and energy-based approaches, enabling a more accurate residual-life assessment when the loading conditions and the initial defect size are unknown. Methodologies for evaluating material degradation parameters using acoustic ultrasonic techniques and magnetoelastic acoustic emission have been proposed. The obtained results make it possible to optimize the periodicity of preventive inspections of critical facilities and thereby prevent unforeseen failures and potential accidents.
