New analysis methods have been developed, enabling evaluation of long-term changes in global thunderstorm activity and the state of the lower ionosphere. A database has been created and the characteristics of emissions from global power grids and the electromagnetic environment at the UAS in the ELF range have been analyzed. The optimal configuration for ELF recording equipment at the UAS was determined. The structure of the hardware-software complex and the methodology for recording ELF signals at an autonomous site outside Galindez Island were established. A database of synchronous atmospheric recordings from three widely separated observation sites, including the UAS, as well as a dataset of ELF transient parameters recorded at the UAS and in the Arctic, has been created. A combined lightning-location algorithm based on the measurement of time-difference and azimuth-of-arrival of atmospherics has been developed and implemented. Spatial distributions of lightning have been reconstructed from multi-station ELF atmospheric measurements, and compared with data from the global WWLLN lightning-location network. Characteristics of extremely powerful lightning discharges have been obtained. Using tripoint lightning-location data, estimates of lower-ionosphere parameters have been derived, including variations in the effective reflection height for the first three transverse waveguide modes, the lower ionospheric boundary, and electron-plasma concentration from the dispersion characteristics of ELF transients, and their seasonal variations have been examined.
