The project purpose was to expand the biological diversity of the gene pool of the National Dendrological Park “Ustymivskyi”; ensuring the preservation of the park's collection in a living state, studying the gene pool of plants by complex of characteristic (decorativeness, adaptability, productivity, etc.); identification of unique collection material with a complex of valuable characteristics and creation on their basis of special collections of tree and shrub species of different uses. The method sincluded field, laboratory, analytical and statistical tests. Theoretical and practical results. The collection was maintained in a living state (476 botanical species, garden forms, varieties and hybrids); 47 botanical taxa of woody and herbaceous species were involved; 7 unique collection specimens were selected and submitted for registration; a special collection of woody and shrub species was formed; 3 collections were provided to educational institutions; 4 databases were formed; materials of tree and shrub species were provided to consumers. Novelty. The formation and maintenance of a unique collection of tree and shrub species of various origins has continued; the selection based on comprehensive research of unique specimens and the formation of special collections for various areas of use have been carried out. Effectiveness of implementation. The selected specimens and the formed collection are recommended as valuable material for breeding programs, scientific and educational research, enrichment of the assortment of botanical gardens and parks, which contributes to the improvement of breeding work, enrichment of collections of tree and shrub species, and the quality of teaching biological disciplines in universities of Ukraine.
