The technology for forming wear-resistant coatings applied to indexable multi-faceted inserts was analyzed with the aim of increasing the durability of cutting tools. The studies were carried out under conditions of continuous high-precision machining of high-grade metals resistant to high temperatures and corrosion, specifically the face surfaces of AISI 420 steel, across a wide range of specified cutting regimes. The aforementioned wear-resistant coating was applied to a lathe tool with carbide inserts using the Bulat 3T equipment via the method of plasma-phase condensation with simultaneous ion bombardment. As a result of the work, optimal cutting parameters for the effective machining of heat-resistant steel were determined, and the nature of the relationship between cutting speed and the operational life of the tool was established.
