The aim of this work – Development of a convenient method for the synthesis of new crownophanes with a diphenylcoumaroncoumarone fragment. Heating benzyl and resorcinol in a mixture of acetic, hydrochloric acids, and chloroform at 62 °C for 48 hours yielded the starting dihydroxyphenylcoumaron. Several methods for the synthesis of crown ethers with coumaranocoumarone moieties have been tested. It was found that the best method is to boil dihydroxyphenylcoumarancoumarone with polyethylene glycol ditosylates for 35 hours in the benzene/50% aqueous NAOH solution system in the presence of an interfacial transfer catalyst – BuNI. The product yield was 71.6%. Replacing benzene with toluene slightly increases the yield (73%), but requires the addition of an additional amount of catalyst due to its partial decomposition, which affects the purity of the isolated product. Carrying out the reaction by traditional methods by boiling the reagents at higher temperatures in n-butanol or DMF in the presence of potassium carbonate affects the purity of the product, although the yield of the crude product is higher.
