It clarifies the scientific interpretation of the concepts of ‘agricultural enterprise specialisation’ and ‘form of agricultural production placement’ and defines the principles of specialisation that ensure its rationality and economic feasibility. The need to distinguish between types and forms of specialisation is emphasised. Methodological approaches to its assessment are generalised, and the use of the structure of commodity products at constant prices is recommended for an objective determination of the level of specialisation. A close relationship between specialisation and the typification of agricultural enterprises is established. It is proven that the development of specialisation occurs in a dialectical combination of integration and concentration processes, and its improvement is aimed at minimising production and market risks and strengthening the financial stability of agricultural enterprises. An analysis of the genesis and transformation of specialisation processes in agricultural production is carried out. Among the key factors influencing the level of specialisation of agricultural enterprises, climate change, the consequences of military actions and a stronger focus on the principles of sustainable development have been identified. The sectoral structure and current trends in the specialisation of Ukrainian agricultural enterprises are characterised, and it is argued that the specialisation of livestock enterprises is undergoing structural transformation. The directions for improving the specialisation of enterprises combining crop and livestock production have been summarised, the implementation of which will contribute to the restoration and further development of the livestock sector.
