Within the framework of the intermediate stage of the project, scientific and technical prerequisites for improving the chemical composition and forming a specified structural state of high-strength steels, including those used for the manufacture of special-purpose products, are considered in order to enhance their mechanical and service characteristics compared to conventional alloyed steels of serial production. During this stage, the influence of chemical composition and heat treatment parameters on the formation of the structural state and the level of mechanical properties of plates with a thickness exceeding 40 mm was analyzed, and the possibilities of applying numerical simulation of temperature fields across the plate thickness during heat treatment using the finite element method were considered. A review of regulatory and technical requirements for the chemical composition and properties of heavy plate products was carried out, and global trends in quality improvement were summarized. It is shown that heavy plate products are widely used in construction, pipeline transportation, shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, chemical and defense industries, and that the demand for such products demonstrates a stable growth trend. Requirements for the complex of mechanical and operational properties of heavy plate, including a combination of high strength and ductility, wear, corrosion and low-temperature resistance, as well as the ability to operate under dynamic loading conditions, are substantiated, and promising directions for the application of high-strength special steels are identified.
