A small number of pigs remained in individual farms and among the population. This breed is a national treasure of Ukraine, so its restoration is of great importance for Ukrainian agriculture. Genetically related to the Mirgorod breed is the Poltava meat breed of pigs, which was created by complex reproductive crossbreeding of seven breeds of Ukrainian and foreign selection. The Large White and Mirgorod breeds of pigs were used as the maternal form in the creation of the Poltava meat breed. We assume that the gene complexes characteristic of Mirgorod pigs have been preserved among the sows of the Poltava meat breed. The mitochondrial genome, which is inherited through the maternal line, can be a genetic marker for carriers of gene complexes characteristic of Mirgorod pigs.
