The purpose is an assessment generalized the modern state and long-term dynamics of sozological element of flora and fauna of the natural ecosystems and agro-landscape of the Biosphere Reserve «Askania Nova» with development of valid scientific and methodological principles of preservation and optimization of the population state of rare biota that will provide its spontaneous dynamics and self-reproduction. Research methods – generally accepted methods of geobotany, floristics, zoology, population ecology, ethology, retrospective analysis, phenological, morphological, photo recording, critical revision of herbarium, geobotanical plots for monitoring biodiversity (EDGG biodiversity plot), desk-based data processing, traditional laboratory and mathematical-statistical methods, remote monitoring. The ecological and coenotic distribution and population structure of rare plant species in the Askanian steppe, long-term changes in abundance and current trends in the dynamics of rare phytobiota under different land use regimes, the current structure, nature of occurrence, feeding habits, adaptive responses of rare bird species in the biosphere reserve and adjacent agricultural landscape, the impact of natural and anthropogenic processes on their life activities, the current state and dynamics of the reserve's rare herpeto- and theriofauna, and their role in trophic chains. Measures to preserve and optimise the state of rare biota populations, which should ensure their spontaneous dynamics and self-reproduction, are analysed. The characteristics of autogenesis and allogenic succession of phytosystems and faunal complexes under different land use regimes are presented, with forecasts of their future status and trends in change.
