Purpose of the work at the second stage of the research is to develop the theoretical foundations for the creation of longitudinal oscillation damping systems for liquid-propellant launch vehicles of various classes, and to formulate the problem of determining the optimal parameters of longitudinal oscillation dampers for liquid-propellant launch vehicles. Research methods – information-analytical methods; mathematical modeling; vibration theory; automatic control theory; computational fluid dynamics. The following main results were obtained in the course of the research. Based on an analysis of various implementations of the mechanisms leading to the loss of longitudinal stability in liquid-propellant launch vehicles of different classes, recommendations were developed for selecting appropriate means of longitudinal oscillation damping for launch vehicles. The theoretical foundations were developed for determining longitudinal oscillation damping systems for liquid-propellant launch vehicles using various approaches to mathematical modeling of the dynamic interaction between the main liquid rocket propulsion system (LRPS) and the launch vehicle structure during a portion of the active flight phase. A problem statement was formulated for determining the parameters of effective longitudinal oscillation damping systems for liquid-propellant launch vehicles based on a minimax approach to assessing the stability margins of the dynamic system “LRPS with damper – launch vehicle structure,” including the construction of a worst-case model over the launch vehicle flight time interval. A problem statement was formulated for the optimization of the damping device of the main LRPS as an optimal control problem, with its parameters represented as functions of the state-space coordinates of the dynamic system “LRPS with damper – launch vehicle structure” as functions of flight time.
