Registration Date 28-01-2026 Organization State Institution "LV Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" popup.description1 To study the dynamics of circulation and genetic changes in influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses in Ukraine and to make an etiological forecast for these infections. popup.description2 Based on the results of the conducted research and development (R&D), the understanding of the transformation of the epidemic process of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period has been deepened, taking into account the impact of medical and social factors under martial law conditions. The systematization of data on mutations of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2 provides a theoretical basis for molecular epidemiological forecasting, risk assessment of antigenic drift, and substantiation of approaches to vaccine prevention. For the first time in the post-pandemic period, a comprehensive assessment of the re-emergent potential of human metapneumovirus infection and pertussis was conducted globally and in Ukraine. For the first time during large-scale military aggression, the epidemiological features of influenza and other ARIs were determined, including regional characteristics, morbidity dynamics, the impact of COVID-19 on incidence, risk age groups, and case fatality rates. The etiological structure of influenza and other ARIs was evaluated, as well as the antigenic match between epidemiologically relevant influenza viruses, SARS-CoV-2, and vaccine strains included in seasonal vaccines. For the first time in Ukraine, the impact of COVID-19 on the epidemic process of other ARIs was studied, including an assessment of specific components of this process, as well as the influence of co-circulation of respiratory pathogens on the course of epidemic and infectious processes of ARIs. The dynamics of molecular genetic changes in the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the formation of new subvariants were characterized, along with their role in predicting interseasonal COVID-19 surges.
