The purpose of the work is to determine the mechanisms of interconnection and mutual influence of democratization processes and the formation of public policy principles in Ukraine; to investigate the dependence of the processes of democratization of the political system and public practices on the characteristics of the party system, party competition, social, psychological and ideological factors. Research methods: systemic, psychological, historical, discourse analysis, determinism, functionalism and neo-institutionalism. Results obtained: it was found that the implementation of public policy principles creates the necessary conditions for the democratization of society – contributes to the decentralization of state power, the development of civil society institutions, the involvement of citizens in the processes of making and implementing political decisions. The active role of parties and the party system as actors of public policy in articulating the interests of citizens, ensuring the competitiveness of the political process, free elections, civil rights and freedoms, and guaranteeing democratic standards in the functioning of the political system is emphasized. It is determined that an important factor in the development of effective mechanisms of public policy is the consideration of social, psychological and ideological factors that “push” political subjects and citizens to participate in decision-making. The role of public activity, civic competence and political mobilization in the formation of democratic standards and effective public practices is outlined.
