The work was performed using descriptive, comparative-historical, and etymological methods. During the work, a registry database for the research was created, literature was processed, sources for complete historical-etymological dictionaries of oikonyms were studied, a standard format for organizing and presenting factual material by region was developed (according to the administrative-territorial structure as of January 1, 2012, taking into account subsequent administrative-territorial changes and renaming of settlements in connection with the decommunization law of 2015 and the decolonization of toponymy law of 2023), and etymological commentary on the factual material was provided. The project team prepared manuscripts of 9 historical-etymological dictionaries of oikonyms for Rivne, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Luhansk, and Chernihiv regions; articles on research issues were written.
