Main tasks: monitoring ecosystems of a scientific object that is a national heritage - the Geological Landscape and Flora and Fauna Complex of the Kaniv Dislocations within the Kaniv Nature Reserve of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; identifying new and monitoring known populations of vulnerable species and habitats protected by EU Directives; assessing the state of existing and creating new nature conservation objects in the region; improving scientific and practical approaches and methods for maintaining vulnerable biotopes of Central Ukraine; developing methods for reintroduction, restoration and repatriation of natural plant populations to correct the composition of transformed biocenoses and forecast their development; developing practical recommendations for local governments on the preservation of biodiversity and NPF objects. The main approach is to identify habitats of vulnerable species and natural complexes, organize their protection, develop non-invasive research methods. The research meets the goals of scientific research for “Chronicle of Nature” program, which is defined by the Law of Ukraine “On the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine”. Work is being carried out to study biocenoses with growth of rare plant species, establish experimental test areas for their restoration in biotopes suitable for their growth, create ex situ collections in order to obtain viable diasporas and return them to nature; study the avifauna of the reserve and its surroundings, monitoring of populations of mass and rare bird species; study distribution and interconnections of territorial song complexes of various bird species; new methods for disseminating knowledge about nature conservation for schoolchildren have been developed.
