Head Hanusevych Iryna I., Доктор біологічних наук Registration Date 03-03-2026 Organization R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 To investigate changes in the redox state and enzyme potential of peripheral blood as a result of adipose tissue dysfunction in connection with the course of the tumor process in breast cancer patients. popup.description2 It has been established for the first time that high levels of gelatinase activity (MMP-2 and MMP-9), ornithine decarboxylase, and low levels of RNases in the blood plasma of overweight patients of reproductive age due to redox modulation of enzymes under the influence of dysfunctional adipose tissue are associated with an unfavorable course of breast cancer (BC). The obtained data expand current fundamental knowledge regarding the impact of dysfunctional adipose tissue on the tumor and the organism and are important for adjusting treatment regimens and improving therapy effectiveness. Based on these data, a Ukrainian utility model patent was developed and obtained for a method of predicting the course of breast cancer in obesity. The method includes preoperative determination of enzyme activity levels (gelatinases, ornithine decarboxylase, and RNases) in the blood plasma of patients with premenopausal status in order to predict the disease course in the presence of excess body weight.
