A technology for processing minerals to produce sponge titanium alloyed with aluminum and vanadium has been developed. The conditions for the transition of vanadium into the metallic phase during the co-evaporation and reduction of a titanium tetrachloride–vanadium tetrachloride mixture have been determined. The influence of the mass and size of aluminium fragments on its dissolution in magnesium and transition to a porous metal structure was determined. A technical device was developed to ensure the controlled supply of alloying elements to the retort directly during the reduction of titanium tetrachloride. A series of experiments was conducted with variations in chloride consumption, aluminium mass and retort temperature regime; the pressure, state of the reaction mass and characteristics of the sponge after vacuum separation were monitored. Based on the developed technology and scheme, scientific and technical solutions were formulated for obtaining titanium alloys with specified properties. The transition coefficients of vanadium (≈0.72) and aluminium (≈0.82) to the metallic phase have been established, ensuring uniform distribution of alloying elements and absence of segregation. The resulting material is characterised by a porosity of 25–40% and stable physical and mechanical properties suitable for further use in aviation technology, unmanned systems, shipbuilding and medicine.
