popup.description1
Development of a physicochemical model of ladle desulfurization of cast iron to determine the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions for obtaining a final sulfur content of 0.0005-0.0010%.
popup.description2
Formation of a database for calculating reagent injection parameters (including the type of reagent used, the limits of expected specific reagent and carrier gas consumption, the characteristics of the refined bath, and the required depth of the cast iron bath in the ladle). Determination of the required two-phase flow rates, the ratio between the reagent and carrier gas injection intensities, etc.
Development and formation of methodological approaches for conducting research, including cold and hot modelling.
Calculations performed using a developed mathematical model of the dissolution of moving magnesium vapour bubbles in a melt, taking into account the chemical equilibrium of sulphur and magnesium concentrations in the metal, show that at a melt temperature of 1300°C, practically all the magnesium passes from the bubbles into the metal. At a temperature of 1400°C, the dissolution rate decreases, and part of the vapour is released into the atmosphere, which determines its loss. The proposed mathematical model provides a theoretical estimate of such losses.
Calculations also showed that both at high (corresponding to the beginning of the desulphurisation process) and low (corresponding to the end of the process) sulphur content, a fairly rapid release of magnesium into the metal is observed.
It has been established that the partial pressure of magnesium vapours has a significant effect on magnesium consumption, and the sulphur content in liquid metal also plays a noticeable role.
