Karazin popup.description2 Wistar male rats of 3-, 4- and 24-month old, which were exposed to stress or hormonal influences (ethanol, melatonin) and animals treated by fish oil or beef fat, and isolated hepatocytes, liver, kidney, diaphragm, cortex and hippocampus, exposed to the quercetin, insulin and thyroxin were the objects of the research. Spectrophotometric, radioisotope, electro-physiological and chromatographic methods were used in the work. It has been determined that the significant drop of the phosphatidylserine content in the hippocampus at old age was accompanied with disturbances in rat cognitive functions. The long-term self stimulation of brain of old rats was associated with increase of the level of emotionality, movement activity, while the melatonin injection reduced the enhanced level of rat excitement. It has been determined that long-term administration of ethanol to 3-month-old rats led to the decrease of cognitive functions and significant changed of lipid metabolism. The diet enriched by the saturated fatty acids led to disturbances of glycero- and sphingolipid metabolism in the tissues of adult animals and changed the responses of the cells to the thyroxin and insulin action. Quercetin or fish oil administration to ethanol-treated animals were normalized lipid metabolism, cognitive functions and tissues responses to the hormone actions.
