Mercury content in surface soil significantly decreased further away from the source (former mercury processing plant), so did mercury content in water. Significant (p < 0.01) correlation was found with blood and urine mercury and occupational exposure. Some individuals had urinary mercury concentrations in the range where exposures are believed to be associated with subtle neurological symptoms and subjective symptoms. Preliminary comparison of results by control group found significantly lesser content of mercury both in environmental and biological media. Data on possible pathogenic role of mercury pollution of environmental objects in Gorlivka (water, soil) and morbidity risk of local population wil be used for further studies.
