The goal of research: to reveal the development process of education and pedagogical thought, to analyze the contribution of cultural and educational workers into the development of education. The following has been done to implement the hypothesis of research: a) the conditions and factors of education and pedagogical thought development in Chernihiv Region within the period of time defined for research have been analyzed; b) theoretical guidelines of research have been defined and justified, the working hypothesis, object, subject, goal, tasks, principles, methods and means of research have been stated; c) the separate stages of education development in Chernihiv Region during 1850-1941 have been determined, the analysis of education development and pedagogical thought of first two determined stages have been performed; d) the activity of definite cultural and educational workers, Zemstv (local authorities), Prosvit (cultural and educational organizations) within the education reforming in Chernihiv Region during the mentioned period of time has been analyzed. The research has been performed with account of principles of scientific content, systemacy, relevancy, historicism, anthropocentricity cultural conformity, unity of theory and practice, harmony of national and universal values and also with regards to paradigmatic, synergic, phenomenological, biographical, hermeneutical and other approaches. Methods of research: historic and pedagogical analysis and synthesis; historic and retrospective (analysis of resource basis); chronological, personality and bibliographical; search and bibliographic; colligation and systematization. .
