The research goal is to review methods and approaches to experimental investigations of gas dynamical parameters in spacecraft unpressurized compartments. Tendencies for the development of spacecraft with unpressurized compartments are investigated by the example of small satellites. Based on data from the 80s of the 20th century, their dynamical evolution is analyzed. Stable growth of launches of small unpressurized spacecrafts takes place demonstrating an active interest in this line of a rocket and space industry and its high priority. Structural particular features of such spacecraft and their operational conditions are analyzed. Sources and physical mechanisms of formation of an internal proper atmosphere (IPA) and an external proper atmosphere (EPA) are considered. Traditional methods of determination of atmosphere parameters are used to study a proper atmosphere. It is noted that the negative IPA/EPA effects on spacecraft systems can be presented both in surface processes and volume thermal and physical, electrical and physical and chemical processes.
