Through his belonging to the old boyar family of the Peremyshl land, the Bishop Varlaam was closely connected with the lesser and middle-sort noblemen of Eastern and Latin rite from the Podillia and Rus’ palatinates. It was exactly this social group which consistently supported the religious, political and cultural initiatives of Sheptycki. Those noblemen also helped him to establish the cliental ties with the influential magnates, royal courts and the higher Roman Catholic clergy. Key words: Varlaam Sheptycki, nobility, Lviv Bishop.
