The multiple-valued semantics of philosophical metaphor of the door is shown in the article. Consideration of cultural existence “between” requires our appeal to toposes of frontier space. Symbol of door as places of breaking of border and transition from existence “before” to existence “after” exposes the mechanism of meeting of the cultural worlds. Having a double symbolic value – to defence and access, door limit the home world and open possibility of intermingling with the outer world. It provides with shelter, protects from dangers, guards the secrets of the home world, presents space that more or less we are known and mastered by us. Crossing a threshold, a man extends his horizons. Doors invite to meeting, opening, contacts with other. Thus, doors designate the place of existence of certain structure and place of going beyond her limits. The event of doors appears in this transition, crossing of border.
