Проаналізовано маніпуляційний потенціал різних груп питально-спонукальних речень, риторичних запитань. Встановлено, що нетипові питальні речення можуть впливати на діяльнісну та емоційну поведінку адресата за умови відповідних прагматичних характеристик комунікативного акту, а також у виборі того чи іншого виду нетипового питального речення вагомим чинником є загальний контекст спілкування. The article deals with the principles of manipulating action of the untypical interrogative sentences on a recipient in the English language. The author analyzed the manipulating potential of the different groups of imperative interrogatives, rhetorical questions. The high manipulating potential of the sentences under analysis gives the opportunity to use the given speech instrument for public opinion shaping. The study of the effect of different types of interrogative sentences with secondary functions on the activity and emotional evaluation of a recipient is crucial for today's needs and perspectives of linguistic communication, for improvement of the verbal communication culture. Interrogative sentence is intentional verbal means of communication used by the speaker to implement their communicative intention, and therefore meets the fundamental principle of verbal manipulation - purposefulness. Variations of atypical communicative functions of interrogative sentences play an important role in regulating the nature of the relationship of communicators and creating a favorable atmosphere of polite communication in specific situations. It is ascertained that the untypical interrogative sentences can influence the recipient’s operative and emotional behavior on condition that there are certain pragmatic characteristics of the communicative act.
