The manual defines the status of the problem of formation of senior students' readiness to protect the Fatherland in different types of educational institutions; the constituent components of the formation of the readiness to defend the independence of the Fatherland in the process of extracurricular work have been formulated among the students of the senior classes; the criteria and indicators of determining the levels of students' readiness to defend the Fatherland are presented; the forms and methods of formation in the youth of students of motivation for military service in the process of extracurricular work are explained; the effectiveness of application in the institutions of general secondary education of organizational and pedagogical conditions of formation of readiness for conscript service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and protection of the independence of the Fatherland have been determined. The publication will be useful for teachers of the subject "Protection of the Fatherland", teachers of physical culture, coaches of sports circles and sections, all those involved in military-patriotic and physical education of students.
