Стисло окреслено теоретичні здобутки вітчизняної ономастики в кон- тексті студіювання українськомовного мілітіпсевдонімікону: ідеться про базові ознаки, різновиди та функційні аспекти бойових позивних як спе- цифічного типу онімної лексики. На матеріалі вибраних ілюстративних зразків проаналізовано загальні особливості мотиваційної бази та очевидні тенденції щодо актуалізації способів творення мілітіпсевдонімів у сучасно- му українському комунікативному просторі. Увагу сфокусовано на своєріднос- ті вербалізації репрезентантів категорії неймовірності. За результатами дослідження сформульовано перспективні завдання для подальшого студію- вання зазначеного лексичного прошарку. The paper presents a general description of military pseudonyms as examples of verbalization of the category of linguistic-philosophical improbability in the Ukrainian language, as well as aspects of their typology and functioning. Nowadays studying such onymic vocabulary as military pseudonyms is considered especially relevant in domestic linguistics, primarily due to the hostilities in the eastern territories of Ukraine within the 2014–2021 period and in particular Ukraine–Russia war that began on February 24, 2022. When carrying out this study the method of theoretical generalization of empirical material, the analytical-descriptive method, and individual elements representing the method of word-forming analysis were used. The piece of research under consideration covers the issues related to the status of the term “military pseudonym” and its correlation with other synonymous onomastics concepts (namely “pseudo”, “military call sign”, “pseudonym”, “call sign”). It is stated that the terminological apparatus of onomastics, in particular with regard to pseudonymous nomination, is still in the state of development, expanding and specifying the status parameters being in need for clarification. Based on the study results, the major features of military pseudonyms, their types by origin, the main motivational base peculiarities of such a vocabulary layer, as well as word-forming tendencies of producing fictitious proper names of Ukrainian fighters within morphological and non-morphological production ways have been distinguished. As a perspective for further study, the paper offers to analyze the word-forming, lexical-semantic, functional-stylistic features of Ukrainian military pseudonyms with military call signs nominations based on the language and speech material of English, Russian and other communicative cultures to be involved. Further investigations may be carried out in both monolingual and comparative aspects focusing on the verbal realization of “improbability” – “probability” categories as well as the binary opposition of “truth” – “untruth” concepts.
