It is important to embed new fashion practices that decrease production and for customers to adopt them. This thesis investigates how adopting the sustain- able practice of clothing rental might be improved during the first introduction to a service using UX design. The thesis focuses on building trust between potential users and a rental service for better customer acquisition. The results of this research are based on 12 semi-structured usability tests made of three existing subscription- based clothing rental websites (Rent the Runway, Gwynnie Bee, and Vince Unfold) and a clickable prototype of the improved Vince Unfold website. The results showed a strong correlation between clarity and accessibility of the information about ser- vices’ work and values and feelings of trust from the users. Quality UX design was found to be important in creating a better impression of new services and had a positive impact on considering new fashion behaviors. Some recommendations for clothing rental websites were extracted during the research. Findings from the study indicate the need to create accessible and clear content for services’ websites and the necessity of additional promotion of the clothing rental model.
