Хоч роман Елізабет Ґілберт «Місто дівчат» (City of Girls, 2019) здобув широку читацьку популярність, проте поки що не став об’єктом комплексного академічного аналізу, зокрема в українському науковому контексті, і це зумовлює наукову новизну магістерської роботи. Об’єктом дослідження є роман Елізабет Ґілберт «Місто дівчат» (2019), а предметом – художня трансформація жіночої ідентичності у романі. До об'єкту дослідження обрано феміністичний та гендерний підхід, а також використанні методик семантичного, стилістичного, контекстуального та текстуального аналізу. Магістерська робота передбачає аналіз феміністичних та гендерних студій, як підходів до аналізу жіночої ідентичності, дослідження соціокультурних та наративних чинників формування ідентичності, аналіз відображення жіночого досвіду та простору в структурі тексту, а також надання методичних рекомендацій до вивчення твору у закладах вищої освіти. Дослідження теоретичних засад феміністичної та гендерної критики продемонструвало зосередженість уваги на репрезентації жіночого досвіду в умовах соціальних, культурних і патріархальних домінант, та як вони відображаються за допомогою художнього простору та наративної організації тексту. Роман «Місто дівчат» постає як значущий приклад художньої репрезентації жіночої ідентичності, що змінюється під впливом історичних подій, просторових зрушень і внутрішньої еволюції героїні. Дослідження показує як художній простір, система персонажів і наративна організація роману «Місто дівчат» Елізабет Ґілберт функціонують як інструменти репрезентації жіночого досвіду та трансформації ідентичності головної героїні. Було встановлено, що система персонажів у романі реалізує широкий спектр гендерних ролей і соціальних позицій. Роман також є навчальним ресурсом, що сприяє комплексному формуванню професійних компетентностей студентів гуманітарного профілю. Actuality of the study is attributed to the increased interest in the topic of artistic transformation of female identity in the literature of the 21st century in modern literary studies. Although Elizabeth Gilbert's novel "City of Girls" (2019) has gained wide readership, it has not yet become the object of comprehensive academic analysis, in particular in Ukrainian scientific context, and this determines the scientific novelty of the master's thesis. The object of the research is Elizabeth Gilbert's novel "City of Girls" (2019), and subject is the artistic transformation of female identity in the novel. A feminist and gender approach was chosen for the object of the study, as well as the use of methods of semantic, stylistic, contextual and textual analysis. The master's thesis involves the analysis of feminist and gender studies as approaches to the analysis of female identity, the study of sociocultural and narrative factors of identity formation, the analysis of the reflection of female experience and space in the structure of the text, as well as the provision of methodological recommendations for the study of the work in higher education institutions. The study of the theoretical foundations of feminist and gender criticism demonstrated concentration of attention on the representation of female experience in the conditions of social, cultural and patriarchal dominants, and how they are reflected through the artistic space and narrative organization of the text. The novel "City of Girls" appears as a significant example of the artistic representation of female identity, which changes under the influence of historical events, spatial shifts and the internal evolution of the heroine. The study shows how the artistic space, character system and narrative organization of the novel "City of Girls" by Elizabeth Gilbert function as tools for the representation of female experience and the transformation of the identity of the main character. The analysis also demonstrates that the system of characters in the novel implements a wide range of gender roles and social positions. The novel is also an educational resource that contributes to the comprehensive formation of professional competencies of students of the humanities.
