Новизна роботи полягає у запропонованому міждисциплінарному аналізі збірки оповідань про війну із урахуванням американського, європейського та українського культурних контекстів, аналізі речей у творі як багатозначних маркерів ідентичності, засобів художнього переосмислення війни. Мета дослідження – проаналізувати жанрово-стильову своєрідність збірки Тіма О’Браєна «The Things They Carried» у контексті воєнної літератури США з увагою до ролі речей як символічного елементу репрезентації американської ідентичності та психологічного стану персонажів у межовій ситуації війни. Об’єкт дослідження – збірка «The Things They Carried» Тіма О’Браєна у контексті англомовної воєнної прози зламу ХХ-ХХІ століть. Предмет дослідження – жанрово-стильові особливості збірки «The Things They Carried». На основі проведеного аналізу твору зроблено висновки, що воєнна література США постає як багатогранний жанр, що поєднує художнє, документальне та мемуарне, відображаючи зміну ставлення суспільства до війни та її осмислення. Виявлено, що збірка Тіма О’Браєна «The Things They Carried» демонструє новаторський підхід до репрезентації воєнного досвіду через метафікшн, автобіографізм і символіку речей як маркерів ідентичності, пам’яті та внутрішніх трансформацій героїв. Узагальнено, що речі у творі мають багатозначну функцію – вони не лише характеризують персонажів, а й передають культурні коди, моральні дилеми та глибину психологічного досвіду. The relevance of the research lies in its comprehensive analysis of the author's approaches to interpreting war experience through the symbolism of objects, the memory of trauma, and O’Brien’s narrative experiments within the framework of metafiction. The novelty of the study is the interdisciplinary analysis of the war narrative, considering American, European, and Ukrainian cultural contexts, as well as the interpretation of objects in the text as multifaceted markers of identity and tools for artistic rethinking of war. The aim of the study is to analyze the genre and stylistic uniqueness of The Things They Carried in the context of contemporary American war literature, with a focus on the role of objects as symbolic elements representing American identity and the psychological states of characters in extreme wartime conditions. The object of the study is Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried in the context of English-language war prose at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The subject is the genre and stylistic features of the Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried.Based on the comprehensive analysis, it is concluded that American war literature represents a multifaceted genre that blends fiction, documentary, and memoir elements, reflecting the evolution of public perception and understanding of war. The study demonstrates that Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried introduces an innovative approach to portraying war experience through metafictional devices, autobiographical content, and object symbolism as markers of identity, memory, and internal transformation. The collection’s objects serve multiple functions: they characterize individuals, convey cultural codes and moral dilemmas, and represent deep psychological experiences. The work holds significant educational value as a tool for fostering emotional maturity, moral reflection, and empathy in secondary and high school students.
