This approach is systemic, because the water basin is a rather complicated multi-level system which consists of a set of subsystems with complex relationships. Their breach of the functioning sometimes leads to the degradation of the entire basin. Thus, the decline in biodiversity can substantially affect the water quality in water sources, and changing landscape structure always affects both the level of water in water bodies and on the assimilative capacity of ecosystems.
