У результаті дослідження робиться висновок, що тринадцять мало пов’язаних між собою подорожей головної героїні складаються у мозаїчну єдність постмодерністського роману, створеного на перетині японських і європейських жанрових канонів, більшість з яких підлягають постмодерністській пастишизації, як то кікобун і дзуйхіцу. (The article is devoted to the analysis of the genre specificity of the Yoko Tawada’s book «Suspects on the Night Train», which is organized as thirteen short and not serial travels of the protagonist – a Japanese girl-dancer. The result of the research is a decision that Yoko Tawada’s text is a postmodern novel, which has been built on the intersection of East and European genre traditions. In the novel the traces of well-known ancient Japanese genres as kikobun, zuihitsu, kaidan have been found and studied. We have come to conclusion that in the novel the ancient Japanese kikobun and zuihitsu genres were transformed into postmodern pastiche. It was determined that the use of second-person-narrator devise was submitted to mystify the reader. The fantastic and oneiric reality in the novel is a sign of kaidan, which is one of the most popular genres in Japanese literature since XVIII century till now.
